Abstract

Normatively, Islamic doctrine prohibits figurative art in the form of sculpture or painting. The prohibition actually comes not from the Koran but from various narrations of the Prophet's hadith. However, it has been transformed into an orthodox doctrine for its adherents. This research does not aim to find the essential meaning of the hadith text which prohibits figurative art, but to find out how the Moslem sculptors, who live at Prumpung Magelang area, respond and negotiate toward it, so in the end they decided to compromise with their profession as a sculptor. Reception theory is used in this study to map the creative reasoning model of Moslem sculptors when negotiating with texts. Through the reception approach, and field data collection through in-depth interviews with several informants consisting of Muslim sculptors at Prumpung Magelang, this research concludes that the existence of the statue, according to the perspective of the Moslem sculptors at Prumpung Magelang is merely works of art so that in existence there are no theological problems.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the systematic and fundamental philosophical foundation of Walisongo State Islamic University (UIN). This research uses a philosophical and historical approach and content analysis method to obtain information in depth. Begins with data collection through literature studies, documents are related to it. The scientific integration of the Unity of Sciences paradigm in the scientific cluster being developed contains three strategies that try to answer. The first is the science of religion that is not down to earth or lacks benefits for the wider community. Then the second is when modern sciences are tasteless and value-free. The last is the local culture which began to fade with the development of modernization. These problems will be answered with the humanization of Islamic sciences, the spiritualization of modern sciences, and the revitalization of local wisdom. Scientific development in the clumps of Islamic sciences produces religious knowledge following the times, not rigid and friendly to local wisdom. Meanwhile, the natural sciences and social humanities are planted with spiritual values. Thus, this research can be used as a stepping stone or a model for scientific integration at the State Islamic Institute (IAIN) to shift to the State Islamic University (UIN).

Abstract

In the 9th century of hijri., a big scholar in the field of Hadith, Ibn Hajar al-Asqalani has described the guidance of the Shariat in dealing with an pandemic which was packaged in his book "Badzlul Mâ'un fî Fadhli ath-Thâ'un ". This book should be noted through the comparison of the pandemic study between the arguments of the imam with the views of modern scholars, in order to weigh the weight of their respective views. With this comparison, a scientific method of hazanah Islam can be seen in looking at a problematic community that has repeatedly occurred, such as the pandemic COVID-19, as well as connecting the scientific chain and Islamic literature passed down from the Prophet to the next generation, as it is known that the scientific chain known as 'sanad' is part of religion. This research reveals 3 main topics related to pandemic management guidance, namely the validity of syahid status for the dead, the origin of quarantine, and guidance during and after the pandemic.

Abstract

Muhammad Abduh had a remarkably profound and lasting impact in Indonesia. His reformist ideas had a strong repercussion in the political and social landscape of the region. They were readily adopted by major Islamic movements, notably Muhammadiyah, al-Irshad and Persatuan Islam (Persis). Abduh’s Tafsir al-Manar deeply influenced some momentous works of Qur’anic exegesis, such as Tafsir al-Azhar, Tafsir al-Qur’an al-Karim, Tafsir al-Qur’an al-Madjid (Tafsir al-Nur), Tafsir al-Misbah and Tafsir al-Furqan. His Majallat al-Manar, which was planned and collaborated with Rashid Rida since 1898, highly inspired reform-oriented scholarship evident in journals such as al-Munir, and al-Dhakhirah al-Islamiyah. This study aims to analyze the influence of Abduh’s modernism in Indonesia. It attempts to discover the implication of his principle and philosophical tradition in the religious reform and modern movement in Indonesia. The method of study is based on qualitative approaches, using content analysis method. It was conducted based on library method to investigate the related data from primary and secondary sources. The data was analyzed using descriptive-analytical approaches, by way of inference (istisqa’) and deductive (istinbat) method. The paper concluded that Abduh had profound and extensive influence in the Archipelago, especially his impact on Islamic reform and renewal (islah and tajdid) in Indonesia.

Abstract

One of the nusantara scholars with famous work inscriptions is Nawawi al-Bantani. These works are recorded in a multidisciplinary scope, one of which is Qami 'al-Tughyan. The significance of this research lies in the influence of environmental factors of Nawawi in the nusantara which have an influence on the style of writing, especially in the field of hadith. This study aims to reveal the facts of causality with the orientation of the literature analysis surrounding Nawawi's notes in compiling the Qami' al-Tughyan. The author will take an inductive qualitative approach by conducting a literature review through related literatures, derived from the object variables in the first ten sections (syu'bah) of the book Qami 'al-Tughyan. Then, the data will be explored in order to produce comprehensive and optimal research results. This research proves that the work recording model used by Nawawi is a causal representation of the situation in the nusantara, especially with regard to the practice of imperialism towards the indigenous people.

Abstract

After many centuries, humankinds have reached today’s time by passing the centuries’ gatherings to their offspring. The civilizations which were established in the different part of the world have had their own culture according to their needs, religions, daily routines etc. One more step from here to cultural and traditional attitudes which were risen and had been started to show them on individual’s behaviors and ideas. The interpreting of the terms specifically has shown itself weakly or strongly from the deep sight of the history till now. This article has a general glance at race and ethnicity for seeking and finding the middle path in the societies.
